Leonardo de caprio narrowly avoided being discredited as an actor when he was labeled a heart throb. He really went into hiding when girls were screaming over the Titanic. My Dad told me stories about how he and other men always hated Elvis, purely because so many girls were into him. I used to think it was jealousy, but it’s often assumed if lots of girls and women are into it, it must be cheep, gimicky, shallow, etc.
oddly men are often expected to be less introspective, less in touch with their emotions, more focused on the visual, physical attractiveness than women. I think people just think girls a stupid and if they like something, it must be stupid. That’s honestly the message I hear a lot.
