Ugh. I know many men. Thank God of all the men I have/have had in my life as friends/family none of them would have agreed with the author of this essay.

My exhusband bragged about my achievements, he was proud of them and me! (I also bragged about him, he was awesome and achieved much). Most men I know want to be wanted, and enjoy that women chose them, instead of people just needing each other.
I don’t think being independent is a masculine trait, why would it be? Women have long been expected to be independent. My mother’s and grandmothers were some of the most independent people I ever saw!
I don’t think this author speaks for all men. Probably some, maybe even many, but most of the men I know would classify this all as cringe.
