The list to my knowledge is specifically around people who were killed for being trans. There may have been other factors involved, but to make it onto the list there generally has to be evidence in the case that the murder was around the person being trans. For example, the perpetrators would use the gay panic or the trans panic defense, saying their actions were justified because they were horrified when they realized someone was trans. Other cases involved elements of torture around the fact someone was trans, such as Brandon Teena who was forcibly stripped to show others his genitalia while they laughed at him. It should be also noted while Brandon went to the police, they didn’t help him because he was trans.
True, many of the trans victims on the list were also minorities in other areas, many were black/brown, poor, gay or lesbian. Being these as well does increase a person’s chances of being murdered. But each time there is a murder there’s usually an investigation, and in each of the cases on the list, the person being trans was found to be a factor and motivation behind the murder.
It is terrible people hate those who are different than them. And I agree, this kind of hate is also directed at minorities, disabled people, trans people, LBGTQ, and others. I hope as time goes by we become less hateful and we see less of this behavior. I have seen the younger generations be more inclusive and shut down more hate than previous ones. They’re often called snow flakes for being so sensitive, but I think they know that hate starts at the micro level and shut down hate speech early. I have hope for the future.

It’s been nice having this discussion with you! Thanks for your insights and thoughts.
