Really why the F do we even care what she thinks? She legit doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
Apparently JK Rawling made another horrible/offensive tweet.
“War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. The Penised Individual Who Raped You Is a Woman.”
Okay, there’s a lot to unpack here in this dramatic sentence, but I just wish to list a copule of facts here.
- Yes, women are capable of rape. Women can rape other women, as well as men. I know in our misgonystic society some where we were fed the lie that men are naturally hornier and thus are entitled or “can’t help themselves” from raping women. And yes, we shame male rape victims to the point where they don’t report rapes, especially if the rapist is a woman, and we prosecute men for raping and laugh away when women are rapists, buuuuuut:
This is all bullshit. Rape is about power, control, not libido, and not gender. Women rape too. Stop acting like rape is purely a male thing, it’s sexist. It’s time we take female rapists, be them cis or anything else, seriously. Not taking women seriously as potential rapists is just as sexist as not taking them seriously elsewhere.
2. Um, so I’ve had sex with women who were “penised Individuals” and may I just say that HRT dramtically effects how that particular anatomy works. Does JKR even know that? You can’t expect a trans woman to do the things with her “penis” you would a cis man, specifically forcibly penetrate someone with it. I mean everyone is different, but it literally does not work that way. HRT changes your ability to have an erection, and well, penetrate. Sure there are other ways to rape a person than just with your “penis” hence why there exists female rapists. If nothing else, I hope this transphobic idea that trans women are rapists sheds light on the fact that yes, women can be rapists too. But just so you all know, that genitalia is probably not gonna do what you’re thinking. News flash: having a penis doesn’t make you more of rapist. Mysigony can teach men that they are more entitled to women’s bodies. Mysigony makes men rapists, not the penis.
But I digress. The real issue here is JKR has a hudge audience and a lot privledge and she’s using it to spread her transphobic rhetoric (If the above tweet doesn’t spell out that trans women are to be feared, then I don’t know what does) to her audience. Which begs the question, why? As in why does she have such an audience? Because she’s a successful writer?
Let’s be clear about something. JK Rowling is not an expect on gender. She’s not an expert on feminism (she just happens to be a woman). She’s not an actual expert on anything. JK Rowling is a fantasy fiction writer. She knows how to make silly stories with imaginary creatures and magical worlds that don’t really exist. She is arguably a great writer. She’s creative, uses language in a lovely manner, and has a great imagination. None of this qualifies her as someone who knows about gender.
Nothing about writing books about magical children in a magical school make her anymore knowledgable, her opinions any more valuable, than my grandma. Yes, I enjoyed the Harry Potter books. I did feel there were a lot of holes in the plots of the stories and a lot of contradictions, and generally some weird annoying things (I couldn’t stand Doby). I did feel some of the characters were quite one dimensional (such as Harry’s foster family, that evil professor with the china on her walls, ect.) but overall they were nice, rather illogical stories with lots of flashy drama and plot twists. I enjoyed them, and they made her rich and famous. They sure as F didn’t make her understand trans issues. They didn’t make her an expert on gender.
You know someone else who was an absolute dick that I disagree with? Henry Ford. The man was a freaking Nazi who shared Hitler’s view on Jewish people. He literally felt that we should murder every Jewish person ever. Have I ridden in a Ford Truck? Yes, of course I have. Though frankly Honda and Toyota are much higher quality, I’ll take them any day over a ford. I never hear anyone talk about him, or boycotting riding in his cars. I even know a Jewish person who own a Ford. WTF? He literally was a damn Nazi, and somehow we don’t care.
Here’s another example closer to home. I’ve never read El Ron Hubbard (I’ve heard his books are not that good). However, I am sure there are many people who have enjoyed his books, who have, no interest in scientology. I personally consider scientology a cult and don’t want anything to do it. But if I wanted to pick up a lously sci-fi book and curl up on a stormy night would I consider him? You bet I would. Was he literally a terrible cult leader who ruined thousands of people’s lives, yeah, probably. Does being a crappy but successful sci-fi writer make him a quality spiritual guru? Hell No! I can enjoy his books (if I wanted) without listening to a single crappy, awful things he says.
You know who else was a real dick? Einstien. The guy got his girlfriend pregnant, forced her to drop out of university, ruined her career, abused her, divorced her, and never paid childsupport on his children, one of which need round the clock care for psychiatic reasons. He tried to further skirt child support by telling Meliva she could have his Nobel Prize money thinking he wouldn’t win it, but surprise surprise he did win, and she got the prize. This was after over a decade of struggling. He very much beleived this was his right and he was a mysognistic pig. We never hear about that, we hear about his contributions to science.
I’m not saying we should cancel or not cancel JKR. I’m wondering why the hell we are all listening to her in the first place? I frankly enjoyed the Harry Potter Franchise, and I feel enjoying that has nothing to do with accepting the idiotic, ignorant, and hateful speach of it’s creator. Really, why is anyone taking her seriously? Why is anyone listening to her? Writing a series of successful books does not make you and expert, a better person, or qualified to educate us all about gender. It does not make you a worthy, viable source for gender issues or anything else except being a writer. It does not make your opinion more valuable. Why the fuck do we care about what she says? Can we just ignore her and her awful tweets? She’s a transphobe, she’s a rich successful writer, that doesn’t make her any less of a fucking idiot.
When Donald Trump lost the election, and he gave some speech about how he actually won, the news channel I was watching literally stopped filming him because they didn’t want to be held accountable for the untruths he was saying. That was one of the best moments of my life. It was like “yes, he is an idiot, and I don’t have to listen to him anymore because he’s not my damn president. Yay!” Why the hell are all listening to JKR? Why are we giving her a voice? She’s just gonna say more and more transphobic shit and we’re gonna get madder and madder. Walk away my friends, just walk away.
There will always be trans phobic assholes. Let’s just ignore them until their platform dries up and falls away.
STOP LISTENING TO THE HARRY POTTER AUTHOR! WE DON’T HAVE TO KEEP HEARING HER.
