Oh My God! I can’t believe you have to deal with this when traveling! Yet another thing I have taken for granite given my white privilege. I’m so sorry you have to go through this.

To others who are leaving rude marks, she made it clear she understands why locals or other people may stare at her, (which is weird) but other travelers who are just like her starring?

Maybe these other travelers are not used to black tourists? So strange to me.

Whenever I travel, I’m always a little nervous. Do I fit in here? Am I welcome here? Will people not understand me? Can I communicate and get my basic needs of safety met here? If I need help who can I go to here? As a woman I feel nervous going places. I never even realized if we add in the additional element of race.

This is one of the reasons why I read medium, because hearing this perspective shows me the other side. I will never know what it’s like to live as a black woman, I can listen and listen. But hearing a story like this, it helps. It’s important to hear what other people’s experiences are like, especially around race, otherwise I’m just ignorant and prone to fall into racists society myself.

Thank you for writing.
