Oh god I’ve had this happen so many times at interviews.

The interview would bring up some thing that happened with a past employee, and the problem. Then they would ask me if I could handle this I situation. I would bring how I would handle such a situation and multiples times in the past when I was in the same or worse situations and how I successfully handled the issue. They would respond with
“I just don’t think you understand how big of a problem this was and how hard it was”

Or

“I don’t know, it was a real problem, i just don’t know if you could handle it”

“The previous person said the same thing and she wasn’t able to handle either, why should you be any different?”

Or my favorite
“You say you’ve handled similar situations, but I just don’t believe you.”

I’ve even had interviewers go into
Long rants about the previous person in the position. It felt like I was their therapist or something and maybe listening and holding space for them would score points. But at the end they just ended up assuming I was just like the person they ranted about and associating me with them. Ugh.
