People don't understand trans gender issues, and it all sounds invasive and radical to them. Gender is a fundamental cornerstone of American culture. To redefine it feels scary AF for people. But you know, to each their own. Children are young, and not exactly capable of consent. So all of this feels like child abuse or they wonder if it is. The sports things is weird too, has to do with the separation of sports by gender, and brings up a lot of sexist view points around kids doing sports.
