My girlfriend’s mother was so excited when her son had a baby. She babysat 4 days a week, would drive down on Monday and stay with the family for 4 days, watching the baby so Mama could work.
When her daughter told her about the baby were expecting, we asked if she could come help out a couple weeks post pardum as I recovered. She explained she was too busy caring for her grandson, and didn’t have time.
We asked if she would even come meet her granddaughter at the hospital or afterwards. She replied “maybe if the baby is born around the same time as my doctors appointment and I can stop by afterwards.”
She watched her grandson for two weeks his parents went to Europe for a vacation. When we have our second, we will have to hire a babysitter to stay with baby while we go to the hospital, she’s to busy with her grandson to help out. She has seen our daughter 3-4 times since she was born. She’s 18 months now.
Favoritism is terrible. I’m glad, I don’t want my daughter exposed to that.
