My cousin had to get a third trimester abortion. It was devastating, I don’t think she will ever recover. She went in for her third trimester ultrasound and learned that her babies head never fully developed. The baby had a heart beat, and part of her brain, but not the entire brain. The baby would not survive outside the womb and and would die an extremely painful death. She and her partner were devastated-they wanted the baby.
In my family, we refer to it as a late term miscarriage, sometimes a still birth, but technically she has a 3rd trimester abortion. Many people will shame her for what she had to go through, saying she killed her baby, but honestly these are people who get late term abortions. If they wanted to abort, they usually do it sooner. By the third trimester something has gone horribly wrong.

I knew a woman at my former job who had an abortion. She had been with her fiancé when he started getting violent, so she left him. He then rapped her, without a condom. She was 19 and living with her parents. It was the only way she could afford college. If they found out she was pregnant, they would have forced her to either marry the rapist, or kick her out. She would have to drop out of school. She needed an education if she was going to get anywhere. She told me she thinks he rapped her on purpose, so he wouldn’t lose her because she’d have to marry him. It didn’t work.

Another woman I know got pregnant via a guy going svelte. They were having sex when he removed the condom as a “joke.” He thought it was funny. He did it with a couple other women at the time. She was only 17 and in college. She couldn’t afford to have a child then.

And of course there is the child who was raped and denied an abortion. She had to go out of state.

I doubt she knew she should be on birth control.

You don’t know everyone’s story. It would have been oppressive for the above girls/women to be forced to carry their baby to term.
