When I went to counseling with my ex, the counselor asked what we valued about the other and what the other needed from us.

Him: "I like my wife because she takes good care of me."

Counselor: "And what does she need from you?"

HIm: "She needs nothing. She is a strong woman who takes care of me."

This was after he had been very abusive to me, and then expected me to take care of the mess. I pressed him for what he liked about me other than me being a care taker.

Him: "She takes good care of me, and herself, she takes good care of us" was all that he could come up with.

Marriage over. I was his to take from, nothing else to me.
