Lots of men here are arguing compulsory paternity tests. I had my baby via sperm donation. Would I have to get a paternity test? God I hope not. That would over complicate an already expensive process.
It’s not like I could get pregnant on accident.
Some men who have fertility issues, will pick a sperm donor that looks like them, and will swirl their sperm with the donor via ivf or just continue to have sex with their wife while they are ovulating and she gets fertility treatment via iui or ici and hope for the best. Such men don’t want to know. Some do.

It’s such a complex issue rooted in history, culture, misogyny, etc. I can see the benefit for men of having an automatic paternity test, but we’ve also been trained that women who need one are not to be trusted and to be shamed. Thus I can see a lot of women walking away from a marriage where it’s asked. I’ve even heard of pregnant wives being asked for a test, they get one, it’s positive, but trust is broken, so they get an abortion and a divorce. It’s all so strange.
