Interesting perspective here. Weird how the only white person is alone in a canoe. I am glad the advertising world is getting more inclusive in its adds. However in some ways this is new territory and featuring people they are not used to will warrant mistakes. I’m glad we are analyzing these mistakes because they provide insight into the racism baked into our surroundings. As a white person, I was raised to not see racism. I’ve learned so much how racism is subtle, expressed in millions of ways I haven’t even noticed. Racist mistakes, even (especially) from well meaning folks, point to a larger picture of the racist assumptions our society carries and passes to each generation.
