I’m a person who really enjoys a good debate, even calm, sound, arguments. I’m a mathematician who focused on logic and critical thinking in my undergrad work. I’m on medium to learn and discuss and think about things, and to become a better writer of course.
That being said I have found The Argumentative Penguin and the arguments he makes not very helpful or insightful. He tends to use a lot of educated words and presents rather eloquently, but when I really look into his arguments they are mostly based on ridicule, red herrings and personal prejudice. He makes a big show of trying to sound smart and is very eloquent however, but under the surface there’s not much. I don’t recall if I personally have gotten into it with him here on medium, nor do I have any interest in interacting with him. I’m sorry you had the unfortunate experience of his engaging with you.
He had a lot of followers, but I think anyone who posts and comments here long enough will get them. I’m sure there are people who agree with he says and enjoy his work. I have yet to see anything interesting in his arguments, so far it’s just dressed up prejudice and ridicule, and that’s fine for him and his followers but I’m going now where near that.
It’s not very interesting interacting with him, best to just stay away.
