I worked for years in terrible retail establishments. Some were just awful. They allowed things to happen the white-collar class knows nothing of.
One job full on stopped paying me for 3 months. They claimed it was a "paper work error" but no one was interested in fixing it for me. I stopped going to that job until they paid me. They did eventually pay me, but made up an excuse later and fired me. All for demanding I get a pay check (why did they think I worked there?).
I had one job change my hours nightly without informing me. I would go home Thursday to be scheduled to work Friday at 10 a.m. When I showed up the next day my hours had been changed to 9 a.m., and I was written up for being late.
I had jobs that every year would give me a pay decrease, an actual decrease, unless I made so many sales per year.
Other jobs would evaluate me and give me an average raise of 72 cents. It wouldn't even cover the cost of living increase.
I had jobs that put me in very dangerous situations and then lied about me, and requested I also lie about it to others and praise my job for being extremely safe.
I've had jobs that denied me required 10 minute breaks every 2 hours.
I had jobs that implemented ridiculous dress codes (outfits 80$ plus) but no money to actually purchase such clothing. I was required to buy the outfits through the retail establishment, no employee discount.
As people come out of the pandemic, some of these jobs are wondering why people don't go back to them. they need to have better work environments. Better pay, real sick leave, follow laws, safety, etc.
