I think it’s also denial. There’s this whole mentality around disabled people, that there are so few of them, if we just ignore them they will disappear mindset. It’s fucked up. They may have on some level believed they had never seen this before, and just kept it there, choosing denial instead of learning from the past. When they do provide an accommodation they then think “there, we did something, now just go away so we don’t have to remember you exist” and then they pretend you aren’t there.
This is a great article. Be visible. Call these things out. Disabled people exist and these accommodations are not a big deal.
