I refuse to watch the series, because it sounds like it underestimates stalkers and how fucking scary they are. Stalkers are fucking scary; but because Martha is a woman, and fat, it’s not taken as seriously as if a man was stalking a young girl. I find this rather sexist, fat phobic and a double standard. Stalkers aren’t funny, not even ones who are jolly fat woman. It’s often implied that fat people are stupid thus harmless. Thus we don’t take Martha’s stalking seriously.

However, the trans representation is interesting. I’ve read a lot of reviews, and it honestly sounds like the guy (I forget his name) may be more of a chaser than an actual boyfriend.
It sounds like Terri is portrayed well, as a normal woman going about her normal life, while the dude apparently makes it clear he won’t be serious about her, tries to hide his relationship with her, and ignores her needs after the assault.

I think this shows how despite great Terri is, she is still treated like shit for being trans. Is this normalizing chasers treating trans women like shit? Or is it calling out that perfectly normal trans women are often treated like shit for no good reason? I haven’t seen it and this am missing the context, the subtleties to go either way. But I think this is a good question to ask about the portray of trans people in the media.
There’s a fine line between normalizing abuse of a marginalized group, and calling out the abuse of a marginalized group. Which do you think is happening here? It could go either way based on a lot of different factors.

What exactly is the dude exploring about his sexuality here? Sleeping with a trans woman is not a good way to figure out if you’re gay, because news flash to Donny, trans women are women and for a man to be with one is a heterosexual relationship. I’ve heard of trans eggs sleeping with trans women to get more comfortable with the idea of transitioning, is the dude an egg?
