I had hyperthyroidism, with a tsh of .04 and a noticeable tremor. My eye sight was changing quickly because of it, I was experiencing heart palpitations, Insomnia, anxiety, dehydration, high blood pressure (at age 27 with no prior history) and sudden hair loss.
My doctor, after looking at my test results and listening to my concerns, told me to work these issues out in therapy. She said these were issues for my therapist not her. News flash, hyperthyroidism can actually cause anxiety. Yes I have spent years in therapy improving myself, that doesn’t mean I’m crazy and my symptoms are delusions. Eventually I went to a new doctor who referred me to a specialist (endocrinologist) who eventually treated me and I got better. The old doctor refused to refer me to a specialist. She saw in my chart I worked with a therapist and from then on my problems were just “mental health issues.” They actually weren’t, I was legit physically sick from thyroid disease. A person can be in therapy and have a physical ailment at the same time.
