I am mix-handed, but lean to the left. It was confusing AF for my parents and myself growing up. I like to switch hands and use them equally, but I always start with my left, and overall use it more. I will use my left hand more than my right, but I'm more ambidextrous than most lefties.
My ex-husband is one of these very left-handed people. Growing up his mother would only hand him his bottle on his right side and wouldn't give it to him unless he used his right hand. After two days of going hungry, she realized this was cray. He literally would have starved to death.
I like this analogy. I would like to add, that in the past people argued that it went against the Bible to use your left hand. There are even bible verses using metaphors such as "sitting at the right hand" as a metaphor. People argued that using your left hand went against the Bible and christianity, even though the Bible never bands this. It's just assumed that because the majority of people are right-handed, that is the norm. People argued that being left-handed was "unnatural" and associated with the devil.
Similary, the Bible says literally nothing about being trans. The closest thing they have is am ambitious verse about being nice eunuchs which is the closest thing one can find to maybe a post-opp trans woman. But the Bible is silent about the matter. Yet christians argue that it 'goes against nature' and is wrong.
Interestingly when silverware first appeared, many people argued it went against the Bible for the exact same reasons people argue the Bible is against trans people. Since God gave us two hands, he must have intended us to use them for eating, thus using silverware went against God, and nature as well. The same argument is often used around trans folk, saying that since God made their bodies with specific genetallia, that must be how he intended them to live. Then there's the argument that God doesn't make mistakes, and being trans implies he does. But the same argument was used against silverware 1000 years ago. That by using silverware we are insiting that God made a mistake by giving us hands and not knives, forks, and spoons as fingers. Let's face it, eating with utensils is way more hygienic that just our hands.
