I always thought that movie with Sandra bullock reeked of white saviorism.
I read about that truth recently and it made me sick as hell.

I agree, trans racial adoption is not ideal. But neither is growing up without a parent. Racism created this problem, and racism is making the solution worse. What can be done?

My partner and I are currently considering adoption (we’re white). I can’t imagine somehow saying I only want a white child. That feels crazy. A child needing a loving home is the child I want to adopt. Yet you’re totally right, colorblind adoption is a horrible idea. I don’t know the process, but maybe there’s a social worker or someone else who will help advocate which child would benefit the most from being in my family. I hope there’s someone who advocates for these kids who understands more about what’s best for each child and what setting benefits them the most. It should be what’s best for the child above all else. This whole thing reminds me of how Native American children were forced into deadly boarding schools, stripped of their parents, in attempts to white wash them.
