I also loved persuasion! I have no idea why it got negative reviews.

I thought the protagonist was funny, charming, and witty. I liked that she is mature, considered an old maid probably at the time. It was total eye candy too, the colors and the artistry were amazing.

It seemed like the woman version of "the one that got away" trope.

I've often wondered if Austin wrote this as the happy ending she never got to have herself. She did have a lover when she was young, but he was persuaded to not be with her as he was to young and didn't have a career, and she wasn't very upperclass. He left and their families kept them apart. As Jane aged, she never really had another suitor. I wonder if she had some dream as she got older and wiser that her true love wold come back, accomplished and ready marry her finally. I love that the protagonist isn't a wide-eyed, young, naive girl, that we can all have our happy endings not just the naive virgin. The protagonist is developed, complex, interesting, dynamic, and a real person instead of a trope.

I loved the movie.
