Great essay! Great points.
Rawling of course has her feelings about bathrooms and sports, but what gets me is she has frequently equated trans women with rapists. She has made numerous tweets about it, and created a character in her novel who is a crossdressing rapist. I think she equates trans women with cross dressing, which is not the same thing. I think her trauma around being sexually assaulted has put her into defense mode and she feels no empathy for trans women as she sees them as potential rapsits using their gender as an excuse to access female spaces to rape. Often trauma results in people being so hurt, they monsterize groups of people they see as threats to their safety, that’s generally how she speaks about trans women. I think she’s afraid. Fear breeds hate.
Good essay!
