Great article!

When I was a child/teenager I was very religious and went to church reguarly. In fact I went to 3 churches. I enjoyed them.

There was this one church though, I went to twice a week, Sunday evening and Thursday evening, where they were so in to converting people, they wouldn't stop converting me. I had already "accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior" and they even had it written in their records that I had. I wanted to get past that part and see the true spirituality of the church. Okay fine, I've joined, now can we please get to the meat of the church here? Can I learn some wisdom?

But alas, there was none. Every single service was about trying to convert people, trying to convert me. 6 months later, people I considered friends, would still ask me if I had "accepted Jesus Christ as my personal lord and savior..." I was like, is there any actual meat to this religion, or is it just getting people saying they've been 'saved' without any meaning on how to live our lives? Turns out there wasn't. I never got another message other than that. It felt meaningless. My other churches has sermons, philosophy, religious ideas, values, etc. This one, which was a very large church, had nothing except converting people. The converting seemed to have no actual meaning, as people lives weren't changed. They never actually recognized me as a christian or wanted to take anything from there. I was always just someone to convert.

People will do a lot better converting if they show a good community, quality sermons, positive volunteer work, in short, creating a positive community that people want to be a part of. Not just assuming everyone they meet is not saved and then trying to save them. It's presumptions that they assume we haven't "given our lives to Jesus" when they meet us. It was presumptions when they gave your poor wife that little box. She was already a christian looking for community. Instead they placed a false identity on her and tried to get her to take an empty label.
