Empathy is two way street.

Funny how if a person rapes or tortures a woman, we are supposed to have empathy for him, while no empathy for the woman.

I do think it's interesting to look into why people do these things. But in so many scenarios, the empathy is clearly unbalanced.

Why people do such things, I think involves a lack of empathy, and personal responsibility.

If a person is angry, frustrated, etc, they are responsible for their feelings, dealing with them, and taking appropriate action. Hurting another person, is not responsible. People believing they are entitled to do that to another person, (look what you made me do), is a major pitfall. People not having emotional intelligence and regulation, then expecting others to absorb their frustration, leads to this kind of one-sided argument.

It always amazes me how someone does something horrible, has no empathy for the victims, but expects others to have empathy for them. It's a two way street.

People expecting women to be empathetic disproportionally to men is often utilized by abusers to get away with more. While women under the pressure of being nice, will be more hesitant to set up boundaries in unsafe situations.
