As one of the millions of women worldwide living with lipedema, I really liked reading this essay.
I really hate the way people make fatness into a moral failing. I have a very common condition that makes me fat, and there’s little I can do about it. I exercise 8 hours a week, and have been low carb/keto for 4 years now, and am still fat. I diet and exercise so much I am unable to have a baby, but people assume the fat in my body is because I am lazy and undisciplined. Lipedema fat can’t be removed from diet and exercise, all I can do is slow it’s progression. I do plan on having a baby, and increasing my diet to the point where I am able to get pregnant again, and I know the results will be disastrous, I will probably get so big I can’t walk anymore, and will be blamed as a week person when this happens.
I think we as a society need to understand fat better. It’s not just about diet and exercise, there are conditions like lipedema, and genetics that play factors into it all.
Great read!
