As a cis autistic woman, this really crushed me. My autism has forced me to develop more self-awareness and understanding and at a much younger age than my peers. When you feel that different, and just do things different and struggle to understand why what works for others doesn’t work for you, you have to develop insight and self understanding. I have a lot of autistic friends who are women, that seems to be what I prefer (I do well with nuerotypicals as well, but love having autistic sisters) and most of them have had to gain deeper insight at a younger age as well. And many of autistic women friends are trans as well. There’s no shortage of trans people in our autistic community. They have been forced to really know themselves even better, and defend their identities.
